| POST MEMBER BECOMES
DEPARTMENT OFFICER

Kirk Bridygham, Post 223's Historian
since 2001, was sworn into the position of Historian
for the Department of Maryland at the Department's
annual convention in Ocean City, MD. This marks
the first time a member of Post 223 has held
a Department-level officer position. Kirk was
contacted personally by incoming Department
of Maryland Commander Gail Murdock to assume
the position for Bob Taylor, who had to step
down due to health concerns. Kirk's history
books for Post 223 have been judged best overall
in the Department of Maryland in both 2005 and
2007. In 2007, he was awarded First Place in
the American Legion's National Historian's Contest
for best narrative history. In 2008, his history
book was judged best in class for Post size.
