| Since 1995, Sykesville Memorial Post No.
223 has shown a demonstrated commitment to the
educators of tomorrow's leaders. This is commemorated
each year with the Post's annual Teachers Appreciation
Night, the only such event in the Department
of Maryland.
Held annually in March, the evening serves
a twofold purpose: To provide a free evening
of dining, dancing, and general relaxation to
the teachers of the Sykesville/Eldersburg communities;
and to donate money to three schools in the
community. The schools - elementary, middle,
and high - are rotated annually and each school
receives $1000. In recent years, Auxiliary Unit
No. 223, S.A.L. Squadron No. 223, and the American
Legion Riders of Post 223 have each contributed
to the overall donations made to the schools.
Since its inception, Teachers Appreciation
Night has resulted in over $43,000 in funds
donated to the schools of the Sykesville and
Eldersburg areas. |
